Babysitting Safety-Knowing How to Keep the Kids Safe When You're in Charge
So you've decided you are going to babysitter; are you sure you are ready for all the responsibilities this job entails? Being a babysitter doesn't have to be difficult; however, it can get the better of you if you do not have a clue about how to keep the children from getting hurt or fighting.
Study the House: Look around for anything that could be a hazard if the child is running, jumping or roughhousing. If there's a swimming pool, is it covered? Is there much yard between the house and the road and is it fenced in? Is there a lot of traffic or crime in the area where they live?
Keep Them Busy: Plan out special games or bring unique toys for them to play with nearby. This is a great way to keep them from getting distracted and sneaking outside or doing some other sort of mischief.
Know Phone Safety: You should know where the phone is at all times in case of an emergency. You should have a number for the parents and the local fire, police and ambulance services on hand. You also need to know the address if its needed to summon emergency services.
Are You Prepared for An Emergency? In the event a child gets seriously injured call emergency services and the parents. If there is a fire, gather the children and get them outside quickly! Never allow a child to go back for anything if the house is on fire. If a stranger comes to the house lock the door and call the parents to let them know; never let the stranger in the house!
These are just a few of the basics you need to take into consideration in order to keep your wards safe.
