Babysitting Safety - Keeping The Kids Safe

The most important aspect about babysitting is keeping the kids safe from harm. The children have to be kept safe at all times when you are babysitting. This means that if they are playing outside, you should know where they are and be watching them. If they are playing in the house, you need to keep an eye on them. You need to take better care of them than their parents would in the same type of situation as you are not as familiar with their habits as their parents.

Thumb-4 Remember that both the children and their parents are relying on you to keep them safe. You should have safety in your mind from start to finish when you are babysitting.

Small children tend to put things in their mouths that they should not do. Be sure to keep an eye on small children who also have a tendency to choke on certain foods as well as things that they find on the floor. Follow feeding instructions very carefully when it comes to small children.

Older children need to stay close to home so that you can keep an eye on them. Never leave children with whom you are babysitting unattended. Keep a phone with you so that you do not have to leave the children in order to answer the phone.

If there are any hazards around, such as a pool or other type of attractive nuisance, be sure to keep an extra eye on the kids. Fountains, pools and other bodies of water can be very dangerous for smaller children.

It only takes a few minutes for a child to get into a dangerous situation. As a babysitter, you should be aware of the dangers that children can get into and learn what you can do to avoid these situations as much as possible. If a danger does arise, you also need to know what you can do to handle it in an appropriate manner.
