A Guide to Babysitting
Babysitting is a preferred part time job option for many students as it helps them to earn a few extra pounds. However, it is not enough to just decide to work as a babysitter; a lot of factors come into play when you plan to baby-sit a child or a bunch of children who will be away from their parents for a few hours. Here are a few guidelines to help you understand the responsible role of a babysitter.
Communicating with the Parents
It is very important to thoroughly discuss your babysitting schedule with the parents. Always make sure that you arrive at least 15 minutes earlier than your scheduled time to get some time with the parents. Make sure that you keep all important contact numbers with you; such as:
The mobile phone numbers of the parents
Phone number or address of a family doctor or emergency medical health care
Phone number or address of a relative or neighbour in case of emergencies
It is vital to keep contact information of important people as you would most definitely need it during an emergency
Getting to Know the Important Details
Other important questions to ask would be if the kid has any special preferences when it comes to listening to music or reading books? Does the child have any allergies? How much time is the kid allowed to watch TV or play video games? It is important to know a little about the child before hand rather than directly getting to know him/her after the parents have gone. As most children take a considerable amount of time to open up to a complete stranger, it is always better to get all the important information from the parents.
Keep in mind, a good babysitter always makes sure that the child is occupied and safe till the parents are back home.
